The Kampung Pandan squatter settlement problem is being now exploited. Some people have gone around to say that these squatters, who had been asked to vacate their premises to allow the government to build new homes for the people, would not be allowed back into the area.
This is totally wrong as after some 39-years there is a solution to their housing woes. Below is an article by Bernama on the problem, which had been on-going all this while.

KUALA LUMPUR, May 6 (Bernama) -- Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) will look
into requests from Indian senior citizens and single mothers in Kampung Pandan
for temporary accommodations in the capital until a flat built for them is
completed.
Deputy Federal Territories Minister Datuk M.Saravanan said they might be put
up in Cochrane or Sentul but it would depend on the availability of vacant
houses.
He said DBKL had earlier ordered the squatters to be relocated to Bukit
Jalil as a temporary measure.
"DBKL had assured the squatters that the flat will be built at the squatters
settlement in Kampung Pandan.
"A working paper on the project had been submitted to the Economic Planning
Unit," he told reporters after attending the presentation of the Titiwangsa
Education Foundation excellent awards here today.
Titiwangsa Education Foundation chairman Datuk Astaman Abdul Aziz said Sijil
Pelajaran Malaysia and Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia outstanding students
received RM500 each while Penilaian Menengah Rendah students (RM100) and Ujian
Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah students (RM50).

p/s: As for the doctors out there who still bear a grudge against me all I can say is go ahead try make the service better. Prove me wrong!

Stop trying to make yourself sound like a person trying to improve the service by inciting the rage of doctors in Malaysia! You are wrong in your assessment and have been proven wrong by the Health Minister. Just admit it, this is after all a lame (although successful) attempt to achieve cheap publicity and make "M. Saravanan" known to Malaysian public.

The poor government doctors are slogging off for the service and they don't need a politician to prove the politician wrong. A politician still remains a politician and ranks lowly among the ranks of professionals trusted by Malaysians. Don't you dare compare yourself against the hardworking doctors in the public service.

You want to be proven wrong again? Go look in the mirror. You can repeat that as many times as you want.

I believe the Health Service community is waiting for an apology from you although in silence.

sir, you still dont get it, do you? it is not grudge against you for your complaints...it is the way you did it- the big media stunt and those doctors whom you confronted then, they were not at fault... we are not denying or refusing to acknowledge the existence of bad apples and weakness in our service... not so much grudges, but hurt by your actions...because most docs i know, always give more 100% in their work...

Why do people still do not trust MIC and its leaders, like you?

Read the article below.
I will write again on why Kg Pandan Indians are unsure of what you have been promising.

Why should Hindraf talk with MIC?

Yuvan | May 18, 09 4:41pm

I refer to the Malaysiakini report "MIC leaders laud ISA release, praise PM."

What else can we expect from the MIC leaders? All MIC leaders should actually feel shy about this extremely sad episode in the history of Indian Malaysians.

The Indian community cannot and will not forget the fact that it was MIC's inefficiency and complete failure to recognise and understand the needs and sentiments of the Indian community that led to the formation of Hindraf.

I do not want to take sides here but what I can say for sure is that the community was frustrated and angry with MIC (as the only political party boasting to represent the Indian community in the government).

Frustrated over its ‘lack of spine' in dealing with issues affecting the Indian community in an effective and proactive manner and that was the cause for all the ‘chaos' since November 2007.

And now, MIC leaders want Hindraf leaders to ‘sit down and discuss' their problems and grouses with the government! Sit down and discuss with who?

With the MIC leaders? What for? By doing so, MIC leaders will only take things for granted again and take the community for a ride - maybe for another 50 years!

All issues affecting the community should be dealt with by the government directly, through a high-level committee consisting of leaders from all the political parties (both ruling and opposition) representing the community and leaders from all major NGOs of the community.

This committee should be empowered to formulate policies and proposals to resolve the issues and take them direct to the prime minister and the deputy prime minister for their attention and necessary action.

The MIC should not be the only one to propose and refer matters to the government.

Any memorandum or proposal should have the consensus of all the committee members and it should be duly attested by all of them.

The process may be quite tedious but for a minority community that is plagued with deep-rooted and serious economic and social issues, solutions found in any short-cut manner and implemented as a short-term measure will only be disastrous.
